The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has lauded the decision of Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, to reintroduce the teaching of Christian Religious Studies in primary and secondary schools across the state.
In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the council, under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, described the move as an act of fairness and inclusivity.
According to the NSCIA, Governor Radda’s decision reflects the Islamic principles of equity, justice, and respect for minority rights.
“The acts, fairness, and inclusivity exhibited by His Excellency, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, are worthy of commendation, especially as they conform to the eternal precepts of Islam,” the statement read.
The council also urged other state governors, particularly those where either Islam or Christianity is a minority religion, to emulate the Katsina governor by promoting religious inclusivity in schools.
“It is common knowledge that Islam condemns the persecution of minorities in its entirety,” Prof. Oloyede added, stressing that the development reinforces peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among Nigeria’s diverse religious communities.
